April is Internship Awareness Month and we want you to meet Caroline Ricca, Alvis’ Manager of Volunteer and Interns Program:
- What is the value of an internship?
An internship is a great opportunity for students to get hands-on experience in the field where they may like to work after graduation. It is a way for students to get exposure to the field before looking for full-time employment. These internships provide students the opportunity to try out various departments and see what may be a good fit for them post-graduation. It is important for interns to get exposure in the field before they graduate, and join the workforce. Often times, our students are a great pool of potential job applicants. They have already been exposed to our facilities and are a great asset to join full-time staff.
- What are the areas of opportunity interns have with Alvis?
Interns have the opportunity to work hands-on in our halfway houses with case management and cognitive-behavioral staff, at Recovery Choices with clinical treatment staff, at Amethyst working with trauma treatment and programming, with our family and children’s program (either HYPE or corrections), completing research with Dr. Shively or Ramona. We also offer all-year-around internship opportunities with the Creative and Marketing Team in our home office at 2100 Stella Ct. in Columbus OH.
- What is the feedback you hear from interns after experiencing an internship with Alvis?
Students enjoy working with staff and learning. I also hear that they enjoy working with clients and connecting with them. Most times, they do feel like they contribute to our mission of 180-degree impact!
